INCLUSION

At LIS we are committed to meeting the needs of all our learners through our inclusive setting. Our aim is to ensure that we nurture every pupil and have high aspirations to empower successful, well rounded individuals and equip them with the skills essential for life-long learning.

Since our establishment, we have prided ourselves on being an inclusive school supporting a diverse range of students’ needs. If you think your child has special educational needs, or they have already been identified as a people of determination, you will have lots of questions and you will be looking for ways to support your child.

In our “Inclusion Department” you will find lots of information, advice and tips, including how to help your child as a people of determination, how to make sense of the code of practice, setting your child in school, how LIS can help and support your child’s learning at home.

Careful monitoring and tracking of our students ensures positive outcomes for all as well as identifying if additional tailored support may be required. Success for all is essential to us and we are aware that the curriculum is not suited for all our students.

LEARNING TEACHING CENTER (LTC)

LIS is an academically selective school. However, we recognize that some pupils will require extra support at certain stages during their education. It is of great benefit for children to receive learning support, as it is a positive step towards meeting their individual learning goals. If learning support is deemed necessary, a learning support plan will be provided to parents to specifically outline the support to be given.

WHICH TYPES OF LEARNING SUPPORT ARE OFFERED AT LIS?

The LTC Learning Support Department in LIS School aims to work with students, teachers, parents, and outside specialists to help children learn within the curriculum framework while taking into account their different learning needs. We support students with mild to moderate learning variances.

Students are identified for learning support during the admissions process or through our internal referral protocols. The delivery of learning support varies according to the students’ identified level of support in group size, type of support, and frequency. Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and reports are developed dependent on the students’ identified level of support. Students are assigned learning support specialists to work with them, and who become the student’s liaison between the homeroom teacher, parents and outside specialists.

Some of our services include, but are not limited to:

Intensive reading / writing / spelling / phonics skills.
Basic mathematics skills.
Fine motor, gross motor, and graphomotor skills.
Organizational skills and executive function.
Curriculum-based support (in close collaboration with specialists and teachers).
